Dismantling barriers in health care and social services faced by Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) older adults.

ASIAAN is a three-year national technical assistance and resource development center with a clear mission: to dismantle barriers in health care and social services faced by AAPI older adults. We focus on capacity building, cultural relevance and fostering health literacy among this demographic and their caregivers.

Our priorities Heading link

Access and Navigation: ASIAAN aims to empower AAPI older adults and their caregivers with the tools to access and navigate health and social services. This involves developing culturally-tailored informational resources to bridge the gap between services and those in need.

Cultural Competency: ASIAAN seeks to build capacity within aging service organizations to provide culturally meaningful and linguistically accessible outreach and service delivery.

Community Engagement: Community-Based Organizations play a crucial role in connecting AAPI communities with essential services. ASIAAN works to enhance the capacity of staff in these organizations to serve as liaisons between mainstream services and AAPI older adults and their caregivers.

Workforce Development: The future of health care relies on a culturally sensitive and competent workforce. ASIAAN endeavors to equip the next generation of health and social service providers with the knowledge, attitudes and competencies necessary for providing family-centered care to AAPI older adults and their families.

Knowledge Translation: Information is power, especially when it’s accessible and culturally-tailored. ASIAAN creates a mechanism for the translation and dissemination of health and disability-focused information through culturally tailored and accessible messaging and products.

Why is ASIAAN needed? Heading link

Despite being one of the fastest-growing populations of older adults in the United States, AAPI older adults remain underserved. With their population projected to quadruple by 2060, from 2.2 million to 7.8 million, it’s imperative to address the gaps in aging services. ASIAAN recognizes this urgency and is committed to ensuring that AAPI older adults receive the care and support they deserve.
